Now it's time for a science experiment.

Can you tell Mr. Daly about what science experiments you have done so far?

Now we are going to do a science experiment using a very odd material:

What are your favourite kind of crisps? Let's take a vote.

What are crisps made of?

Did you know that not all crisps are made of potatoes? Some crisps are fake and are made from crushed corn mixed with chemicals!

The way to tell the difference between real crisps and fake crisps is by looking at the crisp's:

  • Colour - Fake crisps are yellow all over and are often a cheesy orange colour. Real crisps are usually a mix of light yellow and different colours and sometimes have little burn marks from the oven.
  • Texture - If every it is smooth and round it is fake! if it melts in your mouth when you suck it, it's fake! On the other hand if it's rough and breaks into pieces when you suck it it's real.
  • Shape - If all the crisps are the same shape it is fake. Real potato crisps are made from real potatoes sliced up.

We are going to test which crisps are real. The best thing about this is that you have to taste the crisps to check!

Here is how we do it:

1. Every group will get a bag of crisps. Each person in a group take ONE crisp.
2. Before tasting the crisp you look at its colour and shape and put a tick in the right box on the science sheets Mr. Daly made.
3. Then put the crisp in your mouth to test the texture (see if it melts or breaks) and put a tick in the right box.

Are we ready?
